Como, in their debut Champions League season, beat French side Lens 9-1 away from home on Wednesday night. It is the first time a team has scored nine away goals in the competition's history, and the eight-goal winning margin equals the record shared by Liverpool and Real Madrid. Como are also only the second side to score nine in a Champions League match, after Bayern Munich's 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024.

The Italian club have now scored 19 goals in their opening four matches, surpassing Juventus's mark of 14 for a club's first four games. Tasos Douvikas scored a hat-trick, while Argentine midfielder Nico Paz had a goal and two assists. Paz also marked the night emotionally: after scoring Como's third goal, he showed a shirt bearing a photograph of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died after a collision with a goalkeeper earlier that week. The message on the shirt wished the late player peace. Paz, who came through Tenerife's youth academy, had earlier expressed his grief at the death.

The win followed Como's 4-1 victory over Manchester United two weeks earlier. With three wins from four games, Como have moved to fourth in the league phase standings.
